The Web is Not Public.But maybe It Should be or maybe Not

It rides on commercial pipes owned by for-profit companies and we are largely at their whim. Second Life/Linden Lab is really just a Web-hosting company that lives in San Fran. Why is this important to remember at all? Because the mimicry is so good. Maybe the Web can be some kind of Habermas-like salon but its not.
