CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. Everyone I knew, followed the ADDIE approach. If you wanted micro-learning, you could do it.

And they hired you because they want an LMS or whatever they call those things – a learning system, they might say. Again, Workforce Development I once had a CEO who espoused the message of learning and training for all employees.  It can be solved with a learning system and online content.

A product called Macromedia Flash (being used with web sites) became a go to for course development. You added “objects” ADDIE (developed for everything but e-learning) was tapped. You added “objects” ADDIE (developed for everything but e-learning) was tapped. I used DazzlerMax. It was 2012.

PowerPoint is not E-Learning and shouldn’t be used as your course tool/development – For whatever reason, there are people who have been around online learning for years, who still see PPT as a means for the creation of content – i.e. courses. Learning System Execs of the Year – Something new for 2020.

The spin is that you can accrue points by reading an article, taking a course, leaving comments, ranking content, completing an assessment and so on – varies among vendors. but in the e-learning world. For the masses of the e-learning audience, people do not shoot video at a production facility or have one in house; but some do.

The same can be said from a learning perspective. I am always bothered when vendors see the entities as one in the same. Ask yourself, how many HR people do you know that are aware of ADDIE? What about Gagne (if you are one who still sees it as an appropriate mechanism behind learning)? . They are not. I doubt it.

How many of you, are familiar with terms such as ADDIE? And yes, someone can teach themselves to become an expert in a specific software, but too many people pitch themselves as an expert because they know how to do 50% of the product very well or specific items 100% of the time, and nothing else. Ever heard of a flower?
