The tool I use for this job is Camtasia , but there are undoubtedly alternatives. This option has several advantages: you get to use an auditory as well as a visual channel; any animations in your slides are retained; you may not have to alter the slides from the original; you have plenty of alternative ways of distributing your content.

For an open source alternative, try EXE. I worked for several years with a UK tool called Accelerator and experienced first hand how easy it was to work with others to share assets and learning objects and to work together on creating and maintaining materials. Good online tools include Atlantic Link and Mohive - mind you, they're not cheap.

I've got the new Adobe Presenter 7 on a month's trial and have spent the past hour giving it a thorough working over. Alternatively, you could record a narration using your webcam and play the video in the sidebar. More likely you'll want to add narration, which you can capture directly or import from an existing file.
