What I am hearing and seeing in E-Learning

It comes from me talking to vendors, buyers, monitoring the industry all the while taking notes and seeing the trends/patterns appear right before my eyes. What has always amazed me are number of e-learning vendor web sites whose design looks like it came from 1995 when Netscape ruled the land. Upside Learning.

A Look Back at E-Learning in 2012

Sadly though many still are in the dark on true mobile learning – i.e. not accessing their platform via a mobile web browser. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. Standards are Facebook and Twitter. Frankly a few deserve coal in their stockings. Best example?

I can honestly count on my two hands the number of LMS vendors that were present – If you can’t get land a chunk of these folks to attend a “pure” e-learning show, something is wrong here – especially when it is VEGAS the fun capital of EARTH or nearby Mars. E-Learning 24/7 .

I think my dinosaur status as an instructional designer stems from the fact that Ive always worked for e-Learning vendors where the programming, graphics, and ID are distinct, separate job roles. Rapid e-Learning tools, like Articulate , change the amount of actual technical skill an ID would need within such a group.

Theres nothing in ADDIE about learning objects or the presentation of information. Most e-Learning vendors mention ADDIE or some form thereof on their websites as if it was a real science about creating effective learning. I dont think ADDIE and Gagne are really in the same class.

Twitter has APIs, so does Facebook, even Linkedin. However there are vendors who sell their API solution wrapped in a piece of software. SCORM Player communicating with your vendor’s solution, for example, if you were creating your own LMS and Rapid Intake’s rapid e-learning authoring tool, it includes a SCORM Player API.
