You could use any of the many authoring tools, such as Authorware, but you needed an appropriate player. And we want to know whether or how well someone did for critical business skills. With this we will see a big shift in the way we see assessments. Learning designers can then design appropriate intervention within this framework to align with learning needs and business goals. The LMS will evolve to support ( not manage ) Formal + Informal + Social + Non-Formal learning components.

In the early days of e-learning course creation, you could either use your in-house instructional designer(s), self-teach yourself Authorware, DazzlerMax, and similar tools – or have your in-house ID person do it for you, outsource development to a 3rd party aka custom development for your proprietary course. Lots to like. Bottom Line.

I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. Perhaps their audience is unaware of LMSs who offer assessment tools. Perhaps they are unaware of online authoring systems offering assessment features. Growing is what business is all about. Jump on the Bandwagon.

Quiz assessment tools and systems, that assume everyone wants to do T/F and M/C or Short Answer and T/F only. Nobody, if they want to stay in business. For those of us who can remember, back in early 2000, products like Authorware were essential to building courses. It is all about the Hype. Authoring Tools (Rapid E-Learning).
