Learning Tools – Do these really belong?

First off, Jane Hart put this together from whereas folks voted for the tools they use for learning. That said, there were some curious items on this list, which to me, doesn’t really fly in the world of learning tools. I use Twitter, but there is no way, I see it as a learning tool. To me, this is not a learning tool.

SumTotal Learning Management – They have come a long way. I readily admit for the longest time I was not a fan of SumTotal, but that was then, this is now. Quizdom is also included too – very good assessment tool, and their built-in authoring tool could be sold as a standalone.

Open source software is a great example. 10 years ago we would occasionally cross paths with corporate LMS buyers who were evaluating commercial systems side-by-side with open source platforms. Early open source learning systems were viable for academic applications. Times have changed.

User Friendly or Hype?

Authoring tools whose interface either looks like to was written in 1997 (thus outdated) or is so confusing, that the premise of rapid, just is not possible. Quiz assessment tools and systems, that assume everyone wants to do T/F and M/C or Short Answer and T/F only. Admin side’s interface is non-user oriented.
