The authoring tool industry continues to evolve. I won’t regurgitate everything that appeared and did not for that matter in the authoring tool space as a whole in 2016, but a few have crossed over in a positive light, which is pushing trend. Its nearly Halloween and with that comes the shocking and fearful excitement or lack thereof of the scariest things on the plane appearing at the movie theaters, in costumes, television and for us, the course authoring tool market. Just in the past two years the per license cost of authoring tools has skyrocketed.

So I offered to create the updates myself, if they would pay for authoring software. I’ve expanded to using Toolbook and other software. First, be aware that many LMS systems already have integrated authoring software. What are some of your favorite tools?

Brought down by the tool or tools, another retorted back. The weapons including Authorware, Macromedia Director, DazzlerMax, Toolbook were the ones that separated the knights from the common folk. Rise of the Rapid Content Authoring Dragon. Chopped by the ax as they would say. Nay, said another person standing near me.

Where does PowerPoint fit into the standards? Until eLearning vendors bite the bullet, come to real standards on formats, and then the tools and structure can build up to support those standards, eLearning is never going to be what it can be. However, it all settled down to roughly Toolbook, Authorware and IconAuthor.
