Someone came up with the idea of an LCMS (RIP) Community of Practice (yuck, first it went the way of the dodo bird, then has made a comeback – just like the dodo bird – which is being re-created genetically). I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. At the time, I hated it.

History of the LMS

The majority of people creating the courses used authoring tools, such as Authorware (difficult to learn, but robust), Dazzler Max (I used it, learning curve though), Lectora (difficult to learn) and many others that existed then. The LCMS Learning Content Management System. Instructional design was actually being used.

MyUdutu: One of those best kept secrets in e-learning authoring tools

I’ve used a bunch of desktop authoring tools – Lectora, Dreamweaver, Authorware, Captivate, and Articulate to name a few. I wish it had been around when I was pulling my hair out learning Authorware. I haven’t really used a lot of web-based authoring tools though. It’s a very flexible and very versatile product.

Learning Management Systems, LCMS, Learning Portals. For those of us who can remember, back in early 2000, products like Authorware were essential to building courses. Authorware was a great product, but its learning curve was extremely difficult and user friendliness was debatable. The worst of the offenders.
