The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55 to 65 year old women. Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear. They do not want to jump into the water, for fear of the social learning shark. They offer the repetitive features of what they deem to be social learning. Event management.

The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. In my latest directory, 393 LMS vendors – global, of which 34 or so are open source systems. In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. Folding up shop for good – goodbye and nice knowing you. It was a myth.

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. E-commerce is standard, multi-tenet off the main system, with each distributor/wholesaler/reseller/sales agent, etc. When a vendor I am reviewing or identifying is a client of mine, it will always be noted, as such. My runner-up is Operitel’s LearnFlex LSP.

Vendors were saying, lets “wait on those&# or “our customers are not requesting them, so we are holding off&#. Social learning? If they were doing it, Facebook like page, a crummy blog that looks nothing like a real blog, a Twitter like feed, maybe RSS, text chat and YouTube functions and upload/download angle.

Revenues across the board are up, profit margins are healthy and competition is on-going (always a good thing). Illogical – I often see systems that add features that seem as though they tossed a bunch of ideas on a wall and whatever stuck up there, went into their platform. The LMS market is strong. The Negatives. Bottom Line.

If you as the customer want to create your own API/Mashup or find one on the net and want to integrate it into your paid LMS, the vendor will charge you. You can share the content in Facebook with your Facebook friends. So, you now have an open marketplace with a social learning twist to it. Share via Twitter.
