Is it me or does it seem that most vendors in the LMS/LCMS market still believe that with some smoke and mirrors, you won’t realize that social media actually must be integrated into social learning for it to exist? After all, many have a blog, wiki, rss feed, a Facebook like page, with profile, inc.

In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. and not necessarily worldwide (which should be the case), there is bound to be those vendors who are seeking new opportunities. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services.

I wonder if we have truly achieved this premise, i.e. learning without borders or are we stating something that is not yet accurate? Social Engagement. Go onto any social media site: Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Quora or any of the thousands of sites, and you will see people engaging with total strangers.

Vendors were saying, lets “wait on those&# or “our customers are not requesting them, so we are holding off&#. Social learning? If they were doing it, Facebook like page, a crummy blog that looks nothing like a real blog, a Twitter like feed, maybe RSS, text chat and YouTube functions and upload/download angle.
