What I am seeing is an increase in learning system vendors exploring online/offline synch with the iPad/iPad2 (and yes, Android OS). While there are vendors who offer online/offline synch with their LMSs, they are doing it via a universal app, which is geared towards the screen size of smartphone, rather than a tablet.

SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version).

Very few LMSs offer online/offline synch with a native app – heck, online/offline synch in general, but pitch that they offer mobile learning. . Too me, that is not truly mobile learning. While it has been reported that the next version of the iPad will have 4G, lets not forget that 4G data is not free.

Rapid Intake is still in beta testing for the app, but as of right now, the total number of vendors is Zero. Wait, you have a SaaS based version, so I can be anywhere and work on it. They plan on launching a version next year on smartphones. Online/offline synch – there is a demand here, and recent data shows that more consumers are selecting tablets with Wi-Fi over 3G or 4G. Mobile learning – it might surprise you to know that 75-80% of all systems in the space, currently do not offer any type of mobile learning, the number goes up even higher for online/offline synch. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors).

Self contained app on a tablet or I hate to say it – smartphones – bottom line everything can be done within the app, no need to click the app and go to the vendor’s online tool – after all, if that is the capability today, why would I even want the app, since I can just click my browser?

They include: Offers a note section – i.e. the person creating the courses or SMEs or reviewers can leave notes, comments, recommend changes, often time stamped, date stamped.
