Standard licenses, extended licenses, and commercial licenses are just a few of the licenses types you can expect to encounter. For example, the standard license for iStock lets you use the image in most e-learning courses. But if you were creating an e-learning template for resale, then you’d need the extended license.

Frankly a few deserve coal in their stockings. Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting. Standards are Facebook and Twitter. You would be wrong.

If your goal is just to post the course on a server and let people access it, just for the sake of learning and you don’t care about tracking of any sort – then no, you do not need any compliance standard. LMSs are starting to make assessment tools standard, and again some can be quite robust. RFPs remind me of VCRs.

The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. Over 98% of the LMS/LCMS/learning platform have at least one compliance standard, so why use a RCAT that doesn’t? Makes sense. Super slow. Disgusting. . Bottom Line.

People in the booth that actually know the product inside and out – I’m surprised on how this continues to be a problem at a lot of e-learning shows; some companies stock their booths with people who are very nice, but really do not have any knowledge on the product, beyond what they read on the product sheet they are handing you.

40,000 share of stock. I received 40,000 shares of stock in a company that was pre-IPO. I told them, vendors were offering this in 2000. And that today it is a standard in the space. Oh and the Linkedin Learning platform is missing major feature sets that are standards in the space. Billion to Yahoo.
