In Word 2003, that function is found under Tools > Options > User Information. If they had all been working in Word 2007, I would then have guessed that someone along the way had used the Inspect Document tool to remove all personal information from the document. On most documents, that tool is grayed out as unavailable.

You can restructure or recast a sentence to put information in the order the reader needs it: Original: Click the Chart tool from the Illustrations group on the Insert tab. Your reader cannot see the Chart tool until the Insert tab is selected. Recast: From the Insert tab, Illustrations group, click the Chart tool.

Both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat have a "Send for Review" tool. Here is an overview of the two programs' tools for reviewing documents. The Microsoft Word Send for Review tool requires Outlook as your email program. The Comments tool allows for more extensive discussion of the document.

For those who still like to see the insert carat and strikethrough deletions, Adobe Acrobat's Text Edits tool does the trick, mimicking, like the old Red Pencil program, the hand-written carat symbol with inserted text in a separate pop-up note.
