The Help documentation is very concise about the Library: [link] It has a good description of the columns in the Library panel. Images : contains all bitmap images of any format; exception are the images created from layers in an imported Photoshop file. I’ll take you on an overview of that panel.

Not All PNG Compressors Are Created Equal. The image on the right is less than 1/2 the size of the original image on the left. If the PNG compressor doesn't optimize color depth, or uses non-aggressive DEFLATE compression it can produce PNG's that are up to 90% bloat. Producing optimized PNG's. Don't believe me?

The table below can help you do that. That’s true, but if an image perfectly meets the JPEG or GIF criteria, you’ll often get a smaller file size using those options. If an image meets the criteria of multiple formats, I suggest comparing file sizes in the Photoshop or Illustrator export window using a 2-up or 4-up display.

Using a consistent style helps establish your contents identity (and your branding). For a polished look, try to keep widths and heights consistent, and avoid having widely varying image sizes  it looks arbitrary and unprofessional. File size also matters. Use pictures to tell a story.
