Interestingly, a large portion of LMS vendors have not optimized their products for the iPad/ iPad2 and with the exception of two content authoring tools, HTML5 capabilities, specifically the ability to output a course in HTML5 does not yet exist. I know of one vendor who gives end users the flash files after building the course.

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Comes with Jackdraw authoring tool, and in the tool you can use Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia & PowerPoint content. The product is Flash based, which is nice, but lack of mobile optimization for the iPad. Social Learning is limited. These standout to me.

You could count on your hand the number of vendors even looking at it, and I’m not just talking LMSs/Learning Portals, but content authoring tools and other products. I recall speaking in November on a webinar panel and being somewhat chided over the fact that I kept repeating the importance of mobile learning and tablets.

Investment in mobile learning will significantly increase. Mobile learning sub-disciplines will begin to emerge. Mobile learning development for tablets will become one of these sub-disciplines. Flash will still have an impact (at least in the area of mobile learning).
