Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit. Not sure if any company has try to innovate on this.

Just because a film professor has a graduate degree doesnt mean he/she can make a great movie. I did informal needs analysis on a daily basis, I wrote measurable objectives and built level 2 evaluations and authentic assessment items. Im with you all. In fact, in most cases, it probably means he/she almost certainly cannot.

Theres a line in the Jack Black movie "School of Rock" thats not original but is a common joke in the education field. How much of the pedagogy used by IDs is less to do with learning and more to do with design?

Any LMS needs to have open-standards (not just open source) so you can take your content to another source.
