Adobe, recently announced moving their open-source development to Sourceforge. Looks like a desire to speed up their open-source development around the Flash platform. The new portal called Open@Adobe will hold Adobe’s open source projects in coming days. We advocate the need of openness at Adobe especially for their Flash runtimes. Although Adobe has a range of open-source projects they haven’t yet fully “opened” both the Flash runtimes.

It’s an open source project implemented in HTML5 and JavaScript. Primarily, it reads the binary SWF file and renders its animation and audio content to standard web compliant format. It runs entirely in the browser, reads in SWF binaries, unzips them (in native JS), extracts images and embedded audio and turns them in to base64 encoded data:uris, then stitches the vector graphics back together as animated SVG.
