People often ask me why I seem to dog the big players in the space, ala SumTotal, Cornerstone and alike. Support – the only question is whether it is included at no additional charge or is fee based.

What they are thinking is that they think all LMSs are Cornerstone, Saba, SumTotal, SuccessFactors, and they are not. Most folks are aware of Cornerstone Learning Suite, SumTotal Learning Management, Saba and Workday Learning (all of which are on findanlms.com). But I digress. These discussions center on what requirements should go into an LMS RFP and more broadly how the LMS should really be integrated into the organization. I applaud SumTotal for recognizing that these tools exist in a network of other systems. Great move SumTotal! Other vendors are looking at taking things a different way.

For the past several years during selection I've found that they trail Saba and SumTotal on needed capabilities and they were hard to use for particular tasks that were important to the clients involved. Vendors in this category include SuccessFactors, SumTotal. Your RFP/RFI. I have created two RFP/RFI templates, one for employees , the other for customer learning/education. There are folks who will submit 60 pages in their RFP, with hundreds of questions around security. Degreed, EdCast TXP are two perfect examples.
