In 2000, I built my own LMS for a company, and was hired to create an e-learning program for customer training, as well as run a training division with ILT still in play (blended). Other fun tidbits AICC was the leader here, then came SCORM. Articulate and Adobe definitely did damage to the market, again, with their original RCAT.

Rather, you would author all of your content within one Experience API (Tin Can API) compatible software packages such as Articulate or Captivate. Some organizations still have a big investment in legacy content that communicates using the SCORM or AICC formats.
