I was surfing the web to prepare for that post, when I saw a BlackBoard press release and immediately switch subject: Blackboard acquires Moodlerooms, Netspot. Blackboard is one of the largest LMS vendors in the world and is considered state enemy #1 in the Moodle community. So Blackboard bought them a few years ago.

PACKT Publishing asked me to write a review about the book ‘Blackboard essentials for teachers’ by William Rice. It is an instructional book on how to build courses in Blackboard. I was curious if this book could give me a clear impression on how Blackboard works and what kind of facilities it offers.

You can buy a big system that does all (like Blackboard, Sumtotal, Saba, Cornerstone on demand, et cetera) or you can go for a bunch of specialized tools that will beat that big solution on every specialty. But for most (if not all) of these fields we have a specialist in the company that is better than I am.

When Technology is your Friend: Regaining Control of your Content

Tools should also be easily and seamlessly integrated into frequently used learning management systems like Blackboard, Moodle, Canva, etc. For example, I would love my students to be able to see each other’s answers to select types of questions or engage in a built-in forum. Advice for edtech tool vendors. One word: money.
