While using MySQL as a database works well for transactional systems such as traditional LMS, Origin built a system based on Mongo DB, which includes an extended LRS. Incidentally, the analytics module is standalone with separate administration credentials. The analytics module shows the successful impact of the product.

Always get the cost upfront and have them send you an addendum or document, which includes the customization piece, total cost and a place where they sign and you sign. This becomes a key document, especially if there is a problem down the road. Then fax it back to them and keep a copy (make sure they sign it first).
