It's nice to know that it will play well across varied platforms. Theoretically, the other formats can work across different platforms, e.g., there's a Windows Media Player for Mac OS X and some ways to playback WMV Format on Linux. The reality is that the Flash video format will work much more consistently across different platforms.

Dave Tosh laments - Elgg is the most popular white label social networking platform in the world powering over 2000 networks. However, Elgg could power 100,000 networks and it would make no difference - there is no revenue stream as we give everything away under a GPL license. I understand his frustration.

It doesn't have any bells and whistles like web cam compatibility or video streaming, online polling, white boards or anything cool like that. We are looking into a contract where we have to purchase a minimum of five licenses for the platform. We are considering moving to other products such as Adobe Connect.
