Let’s face it – RFI/RFP documents sent over to learning system vendors are massive tomes that confuse, challenge and even baffle some vendors. Then you have RFP/RFIs that lack substance. The fact of the matter is nobody loves creating RFP/RFIs. They can be 25 pages. 50 pages, even 100 pages or more.

I can’t forget the joke of micro-learning platforms, ignoring that micro-learning has been around since 2000, every type of learning system can do this because it is based solely on how you or whomever creates the courses/content. When the Internet as you see it, okay not all that garbage that exists, but in 1993 with web sites.

On top of that, there are vendors out there who change the type of system, repetitively. One vendor called their system for the longest time a “micro-learning platform” Now? Another vendor calls their system nearly every keyword for SEO purposes (you can see it on their web site). They call it something else.

If they were a vendor who played in EdTech (K-12, HE) but also played into corporate and did so, not just by having clients find them, but actively through marketing, they were considered too. Strictly If the vendor was a custom shop building a system, off say Moodle or whatever code they are using that is open source? Strictly EdTech?

I read it weekly on various sites and postings. Out of the Gate – Vendor Experience and Expectancy. I’m still searching their site for the Ocean Magazine Widget Winner of 85 – People’s Choice! A vendor who wins an award from E-Learning 24/7 is rated high and recognized as a top tier system.

In the early 2000’s right up to about 2012, trials were common in the learning system market. Not every vendor offered them, but more than enough did and consumers liked that. For the vendor, it was a potential win, way better than no one reaching out to them at all. This wasn’t always the case. Elixir for all!

The big elephant in the room that we hear so many times and vendors love to pitch (to get you to their system), but rarely the vendors themselves will admit to – many have only themselves to blame. Sometimes, it is the client’s fault and sometimes it is the vendor’s fault. Why, Oh Why do I lose the love?
