Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Craft distance learning events for college credit that pull together elements of both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Many instructional designers find their way into this job rather randomly.

Well, lets just say that theres no denying now that Im almost 40. Wednesday, July 11, 2007 My 100th Post In honor of my 39th birthday (which is today), I write my 100th post (which seems improbable). In fact, I think Ill just start saying that I am 40. This seems significant for no real reason.

Im a Word power-user and love all the little tricks and shortcuts. I started off cutting and pasting a lot of documents from Word into the wiki. Now Ive left Word behind and am writing everything directly in the wiki. Ive had to get used to the formatting -- or lack thereof. I miss them. But the payoff is huge.

Then again, perhaps Im missing something. Monday, July 02, 2007 The Gin System As Ive been trying to sort out the role of FaceBook lately, I cant help but wonder "wheres the content?" It seems to me that FaceBook is a great networking tool. You can point people to outside links, but I havent yet seen a great way to include content.

All the presenters and attendees stay in their current locations yet everyone joins together in synchronous and asynchronous activities for three days (April 15-17, 2008).

It seems the younger members of the workforce prefer synchronous (real-time) collaboration tools over asynchronous tools. In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email. I believe the digital divide is real and involves several generations.

Im not sure how this relates to danah boyds recent blog article on Viewing American class divisions through FaceBook and MySpace. Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. This is a main way of staying connected to friends. A couple of people also had MySpace accounts.

Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold.
