What is the plan for DISC, xAPI, and ADL?

MakingBetter

Towards the end of last year, our big announcement was the formation of the not-for-profit Consortium formed to handle the governance and address the evolution of xAPI with/for ADL. xAPI, being open-source and licensed as Apache 2.0, doesn’t require ADL’s permission for us to do this. That’s a feature, not a bug — we licensed xAPI in this way so that it couldn’t be trapped in US DoD the way SCORM was. ADL’s announcement about our collaboration can be found here.

xAPI Shifting to 3rd Gear

MakingBetter

Between November 2014’s xAPI Hyperdrive and the xAPI track at DevLearn 2014, we hit our stride. We had people well outside of the ADL bubble talking about real world things things they were using xAPI to accomplish. What happened at xAPI Camp Amazon? We got Sean Putman to come in from Detroit to talk about what he all did with Altair’s software and xAPI. Russell Duhon talking about what it takes to run xAPI in Enterprise… at scale.

Recently, ADL (the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative) launched the xAPI Adopter Registry , which lists xAPI Adopters and Conformant LRSs. We’re thrilled to be one of the first companies included on the xAPI Adopter Registry and the only company so far to have two conformant LRSs–both SCORM Cloud and SCORM Engine passed the xAPI LRS Conformance Test Suite. Web Courseworks

On October 5 th , 2017, the Department of Defense announced that its eLearning curricula would adhere to xAPI standards rather than the more traditional SCORM standards of the eLearning industry. I’m not going to delve deeply into the advantages and disadvantages of xAPI in this blog post. It completely misses the point of adopting the xAPI standard. xAPI Camp – DevLearn 2015 is ONE DAY AWAY

MakingBetter

The first xAPI Camp at DevLearn, the first of four events we’re putting on hosted by The eLearning Guild , is nigh upon us. The Guild helped us launch xAPI at mLearnCon back in 2012 and they have been a steadfast supporter of xAPI. Last year was the first year there was an official xAPI Track at DevLearn and, together, we are upping that ante again (…in Vegas). We may even be doing karaoke Tuesday night, after xAPI Camp, because that is how we roll.

xAPI, LRS – The Interview

eLearning 24-7

xAPI and LRS (Learning Record Stores) have been in the news and frankly everywhere within the e-learning industry in the past 1.5 Aaron, can you tell me a little bit about your background and how you became involved with ADL? In 2003, the eLearning startup I worked for shuttered its doors as our customers moved to adopt SCORM, and we had no idea how to do that. Two months after my layoff, a company called CTC recruited me to work for ADL. xAPI has this.

Why DoDI 1322.26 is important for the Experience API (xAPI)

Experience API

The latest DoDI advises all entities within the DoD to procure eLearning technology solutions that are compliant with the SCORM or Experience API (xAPI) specifications. After xAPI was released in 2013, it was hard for government organizations to purchase modern products as xAPI was not supported by the existing Instruction and there was no way to verify if an xAPI solution conformed to the specification. So how can I find an xAPI compliant product?

xapi 68

What is xAPI?

LearnUpon

Over the past three years, xAPI has emerged as the hot new standard for delivering online training. xAPI is often described as the next evolution of SCORM. While the SCORM standard isn’t going anywhere soon, xAPI has redefined some of the fundamental practices of tracking learning experiences. But what is xAPI? What is xAPI? The SCORM specification was introduced by ADL in 1999. xAPI is the result of that work. How xAPI works.

The Role of xAPI in Creating Powerful Learning Experiences for the Modern Workforce

Origin Learning

From early adopters who used archaic systems to set up a lesson that could be shared on one computer with an instructor to guide employees, to modern workplace learning that’s focused on xAPI -enabled mobile learning; eLearning at the workplace has traveled a long way. Designed specifically to cater to eLearning courseware designed for use in the aviation industry, the standards were adopted by course-providers to create eLearning content for all industries.

Answers: How Do I Get Started With xAPI?

MakingBetter

Getting Started with xAPI… for Everyone. That’s pretty darn impressive considering the impact on other programs and agencies in US Government alone, and that it’s seen so much adoption. Going back over a year, however, there are a couple of case studies that have undoubtedly been influential in the adoption of the Experience API we’re seeing now (and both of the following examples are in Michigan… just to point it out for reasons that will be obvious in a few weeks… more teasing).

Taking cmi5 adoption further by developing a Conformance Test Suite

Rustici Software

For the last 18 years, some of the most important work we’ve done at Rustici Software has been the standards-based efforts we’ve worked on with the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL). Over the years, our folks have participated in the working groups for, and the development of, standards as ubiquitous as SCORM, as forgotten as RTWS, and more recently xAPI. Since cmi5 was first released in 2016, there’s been a missing piece that has slowed its adoption.

Profile Recipes vs. xAPI Profiles

Experience API

What’s the difference between profile recipes and xAPI profiles? A “ profile recipe ” was an early attempt to make it possible for members of the xAPI community to publicly share how they were implementing an information model for a given experience in the hopes that others with a similar experience could use the same model. This is the primary difference between the two, with “xapi-authored-profiles” being more technical. xAPI Profiles.

” Well, my objectives with xAPI were the following: Enable data interoperability across systems. None of us standards nerds are used to the market so quickly adopting what we create. This success comes with a sharp edge: it’s exactly the meteoric adoption of what the spec is today that will slow down getting to everything else on the above list. Adopting the Experience API is supposed distribute power and opportunity — not create a new hegemony.
