As Stephen Johnson tells us, in his book Where Good Ideas Come From , the openness of standards fosters innovation. . For interactivity, we originally used Flash, and now have HTML 5 as a more secure and reliable replacement. The idea is not to simply track data, but start relating activity data to business outcomes.

There are currently three main publishing standards in the eLearning world: SCORM, AICC, and Tin Can API. (A Traditional SCORM content is Flash-based, which may cause issues on new platforms and mobile devices. NOTE: SCORM Cloud can test a course published using any of the major eLearning standards: SCORM, AICC, or Tin Can API.

Maybe I’m getting spoiled, but the past two years the keynotes made me rethink some of my ideas and gave me new insights. Last year we had the rise of TinCan and HTML5 vs Flash, this is still there but it is not new. For me the most informative session was from the AICC about CMI-5. A bit the same as last year.

The idea of rapid content authoring, was non-existent. The idea of a rapid content authoring tool, whereas anyone could build a course quickly was appalling to everyone who built courses. A product called Macromedia Flash (being used with web sites) became a go to for course development. Output was AICC (boo) and SCORM.
