Animations when possible (in Elluminate, must do a slide for each change). Breakout rooms–how does audio work? Even the PowerPoint 2007 Smart Art would be an improvement.

BigBlueButton is a free web-conferencing tool with text chat, audio and video capabilites, a virtual whiteboard and many more presentation and conferencing features. I have used www.dimdim.com before and Elluminate (but this is not open source.) Elluminate is a really nice tool but not open source.
