Effective design using PPT as a tool. Not PPT 101. Many tools out there that still have to start with ppt Use it as a storyboarding tool, prototyping. Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. That said, for a freebie -and yes, I said freebie (open source) it has a lot of power. Can add HTML5 audio and video (SWEET!). If they are stale – seriously do you deserve to the best?

In the context of e-Learning (back then it was just plain old CBT), this meant you had audio/video on the screen with timed text bullets. The learner could listen to the audio if her preferred style was auditory, OR read the text if her preferred style was visual. I always tune out the audio and read ahead.

I was glad for my education background, because I managed to make the best of the source (a PPT file). Since there is no formal training or certification for ID I believe any one who can express a topic in words and pictures and make the audience understand / Learn can be an ID. Can I, um, have your attention, please?

Eventually, Macromedia Dreamweaver came into the picture. An alarming rate of “get the content up now, ASAP&# regardless of what it looks like, instructional design is typically tossed out the window, especially when the ID, CD or whomever is tasked to create is handed a stream of documents in Word or PPT or some other form.

I prep the script and send it off for audio production (weve been working with an excellent independent guy with his own studio who can churn this stuff out!) Sometimes have to record new audio. Oh, except Im the developer and audio engineer too. Ive done some wireframes in PPT, but I keep coming back to Word.
