This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

People in the booth that actually know the product inside and out – I’m surprised on how this continues to be a problem at a lot of e-learning shows; some companies stock their booths with people who are very nice, but really do not have any knowledge on the product, beyond what they read on the product sheet they are handing you.

Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. You get the Flash code – YES – you get the code, which you can do whatever you want with it. 264 codec, which the iPad supports, and a few browsers for HTML5. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature.

Often misleading in a vendor’s pitch is that they are truly global, when in fact nothing could be farther than the truth. Many vendors service multi-conglomerates that are international, rather than companies that are based only in country x and no where else. The use of geolocation – available in HTML5.

But, the reason I constantly bash this into e-learning vendors heads is they just DON’T GET IT. HTML5 will be available on every one of those tablets, plus they will offer Flash (notable exception the iPad). Oh, yeah, social learning. More capabilities, more features, more services.

Some items stood out, others continued in an everlasting awful experience (customer and support service – as a whole). HTML5 support – sorry Flash fans . A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. The product is Flash based, which is nice, but lack of mobile optimization for the iPad. Social Learning is limited. Categories.
