In this month’s issue, my tribute is to the 80′s a time where the Net wasn’t around, ILT was the dominant force, CBT was up and coming and WBT was just a dream. Even the strongest proponents of ILT are realizing the inevitable, that e-learning is not only here to stay but is growing stronger.

The real value of e-learning and specifically WBT has somehow become entangled into this morphed methodology of creating asynchronous courses (WBT that is fully self-contained – everything is in it), following an ILT (instructor led training) approach. Why E-Learning over ILT (Instructor Led Training).

To start, you select a PowerPoint that you have created or are creating and upload it into the system. Each PowerPoint slide appears in order, following your PPT order. Now, if this is a WBT, why would you want to see the person’s name on the course and e-mail address? Again, “presentation&# – ILT.

Terminology – The use of ILT (Presentation, Slides, Trainer, Trainees). Automated E-Mails – Invitation, Reminder, Completion, Public view page – after each is completed, the circle icon changes to green. To create a course you upload your PowerPoint. ILT does not offer self-pace nor self-control.

I was surprised at the number of vendors offering a blended product – with ILT as more of the focus then their WBT counterpart. These were a few vendors that made me say interesting and real potential. Commercial Time. One was intriguing, but overall, seems to be a backward concept not forward. Yowsa Product. BrainShark.

Best of all, whether you are utilizing AR in education (I see this as a massive win for all students) or at a business location, you are no longer stuck with courses, even sims that are either boring, lack constant engagement or as we all know, turn off folks who frankly do not like e-learning. Augmented reality opens those doors.
