Happy post Valentine’s Day or as many refer to it, Happy Card Company who created this billion-dollar industry. Nowadays I think that the gig is up, and everyone realizes the scam. Vendors use it to refer to online courses/content. On top of that, they misspell it – the term is e-learning. Nice meals.

In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. and not necessarily worldwide (which should be the case), there is bound to be those vendors who are seeking new opportunities. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services.

Even not having the card prior to arrival, but signing up online, gets you free internet. . Each item in the list must be completed and in many cases numerous times – this builds up retention. I have those every weekend, so why as an adult learner do I want it as a benefit to learning? Trend 2 Responsive mobile design.

Apparently, the potential customers and even clients are speaking and those vendors are listening. Not just a few vendors, the industry as a whole. Some are moving to “unlimited users&# and free “tech/customer support&# , which the latter being a really nice and new concept for the industry. Well, guess what.

More vendors enabling the use of APIs – i.e. people can create their own API and integrate them into the LMS/Learning Portal vendor’s system, this equally means you can create mashups too. Yet, in the e-learning industry as a whole and in the LMS space, the concept just is not clicking.

When so many potential customers are seeing the advantages of open source, creating their own learning or VLE portals or seeing the value of various social media types and incorporating them into some type of social learning community, the “do nothing&# spin is well, a time warp into the past. Not a real surprise here, when you consider that for many organizations, especially in certain industries, knowing the product inside and out, would be highly advisable. As for personal and professional development, it truly amazes me how many vendors in the e-learning space as a whole, forget this type of training.
