Surprises in E-Learning One of the biggest surprises, is that so many folks are unaware that e-learning was an umbrella term, as I noted in the History of the LMS post. Vendors use it to refer to online courses/content. On top of that, they misspell it – the term is e-learning. Shame on them.

On top of that, there are vendors out there who change the type of system, repetitively. One vendor called their system for the longest time a “micro-learning platform” Now? Another vendor calls their system nearly every keyword for SEO purposes (you can see it on their web site). A: Yes and No.

While some view themselves as “social learning&# savvy, incorporating various components, others seem to see themselves as just sitting on the sidelines. Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear.

I am projecting the analytical part to significantly increase and to expand the capability to use solutions such as online storage (which a few vendors are offering) and product like Dropbox and CalenGoo. Social Learning. Integrated e-mail. A huge number of vendors are offering this feature in their system.

Any vendor, who includes a set storage fee, should be able to provide you a range of number of courses – with examples and video/audio files – if you plan to use them. Many vendors’ sites do not state this information in their pricing. Simple look and feel is the standard. Others in no particular order.

You can also add sections which are not on the screen, but are available as part of the site, this is archived by selecting “Configure Page&# and choosing from a wealth of options, such as “my video channels&# and “impressions&#. The person who views your profile can click any of the icons and go to the site.

I surmise it maybe a mentor option, but who knows. I did like that the course title, chapters, author info and additional info was in plain site. Liquid Coach – When clicked it opened a browser window within the system, and I could search. I was hoping that I could capture screens or record them, but alas this was not to be.
