This is an outcome of the Adobe initiated Open Screen Project , which was started a couple of years back. The Open Screen Project was started to help create a singular experience on multiple devices (using Flash) be it Computers, Mobiles, TV or Game consoles. So one can now develop software that can actually “play” SWF content.

Don’t double compress videos – use uncompressed or lossless formats when compressing to FLV format. Encoding videos to FLV. Before using videos in your Flash project, you would need to encode them in a format compatible with Adobe Flash (FLV or MPEG-4). Supported source formats are: asf, avi, dv, mov, mp4, mpg, mpeg, wmv.

I am attempting to embed short (10 sec) video files to a captivate 2019 project and publish it as an swf file. When viewing the swf file, the videos appear to be attempting to load (i get loader icon indications) but the video never loads. I need this video saved into the swf file, if at all possible.

As you know, Captivate has two different video features : Slide Video and FLV Object (details here ). For FLV Object , this is available in the property inspector, once you select the object. Alternate Web server for Video : Sometimes you need to host video on an alternate web server (other than the one which is hosting your SWF).

All you need to do is publish the project and upload the entire publish folder to the server – Some cases just a web server (IIS, Apache etc) and other cases to an LMS. You don’t need to do any more specific changes in your captivate project to get Slide Video working.

However, if I have a larger project, then I like to break my production up into chunks and keep my audio separate. For rapid elearning converting to the SWF and FLV Flash formats are important and Format Factory supports this. I mainly use it to convert FLV to other media for easy editing since I can’t find an easy FLV editor.
