My own students create a lot of their own content during their study, usually in the form of podcasts, videos, wiki and blog content, and are encouraged to share these publicly online to gain additional feedback. has spawned concepts such as folksonomy, ‘Darwikianism’ and the ‘wisdom of the crowds’ (Kamel Boulos et al, 2006).

They are only a small group of a dozen students, but over the last few months, my elearning module group has created a very large amount of content, including blogs, wiki pages and videos. The group wiki is here if anyone wishes to view some of their content. mobile learning and a whole host of other themes during the course.

The emergent properties of content organisation are folksonomies, and are the product of loose organised that is bottom-up rather than top-down. This content is generated not only by the experts, but also increasingly by the learners themselves, and tends to be organised by the community rather than by the experts.

The years associated with Wiki suggest it was more discussed a couple years ago and now is discussed less. Seems so long ago. :) How about 2005 ?

Other tools such as wikis, blogs and podcasts also began to be used in education, at first tentatively, and then as embedded features in various programmes of study. My initial interest in researching the social web stemmed from some early work my colleagues and I did around wikis and blogs in medical education in 2005-2006.
