I have included Kirkpatrick’s Four Levels of Evaluation in every proposal I have ever written, and I wanted to hear from Kirkpatrick himself regarding his take on the current state of evaluation and whether his four levels are still viable. Well, based on where Kirkpatrick and his son James are today, I was completely wrong.

And as time has gone by, I have started to wonder about the validity of Kirkpatrick in today’s world. The title was “Expanding ROI in Training Programs Using Scriven, Kirkpatrick, and Brinkerhoff,” which sounds pretty academic. What I liked was that McGoldrick didn’t critique the Kirkpatrick model. But it wasn’t.

Trent Batson wrote a great piece on technology adoption in the classroom a couple weeks ago entitled Faculty ‘Buy in’ – to What? He argues that technology advocates urge faculty members to go away from what they’ve been doing but don’t explain what they should go toward. Sad, but true. Ive been looking for some ammo t. Where Facebook and LinkedIn serve mainly as social dashboards for our personal and professional networks, respectively, I see Twitter as a customized information portal. My passions in life include music, sports, Minneapolis and adult learning, so I search for experts in these fields and follow them for up-to-the-second updates (Tweets).

His methodology encouraged positive engagement with learning using a wide variety of techniques that included art and music. There was a group that listened to 19 th century music performed using spoons, an autoharp, and fiddle. I am an avid film goer, music lover, bridge walker, and supporter of the Dashe & Thomson running team.
