An API (Application Program Interface) enables an interface from a piece of software to communicate with another piece of software (in its simplest form) or multiple pieces of software (called a mashup). Twitter has APIs, so does Facebook, even Linkedin. Examples: Post your status update in Linkedin and it appears in Twitter.

You can use either your own 3rd party content authoring tool and upload it into the “Cloud&# and then wherever you are, output either to your LMS, or onto Moodle or even WordPress (they have a plug in for that) OR place the course in Facebook or nearly any solution that accepts APIs. A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. I like this system and its functionality in comparison to the other players in this space. That said, across the board for all Big Dog systems, their social learning functionality was weak.
