Lessons Learned: LMS Feasibility Study

Petra Mayer

Lessons for the RFP process. There were a lot of lessons that will help to develop a more detailed RFP (Request for Proposal). For example, it would be beneficial to incorporate into an RFP: Keep all criteria of your requirements separate and provide a templated response form for the vendors to complete. Involve all Subject Matter Experts prior to the RFP to ensure all their needs have been captured appropriately.

3 Priority Questions for your LMS Feasibility Study

Petra Mayer

Typically, this is done through a “Request-for-Information” (RFI) process or through a “Request-for-Proposal” (RFP). When clients talk to me about their Learning Management System (LMS) project , above all, they typically ask three priority questions as part of their LMS Feasibility Study : Is what we want available? How much does it cost? Will we make that money back – i.e. what is the ROI?

LMS implementation without frustration

Provide specific recommendations for the RFP process. As this was an RFI process, this exercise will need to be repeated during the RFP stage. On the other end of the spectrum, you may receive a response to your RFI or RFP (Request for Proposal) from a consultancy, who specializes in the implementation of a system such as SAP. Be sure to get a good understanding of this during the RFP phase to avoid unpleasant surprises.

The investment for your eLearning platform varies widely and you will need to go through a formal RFP process to get the full financial impact on your business. In my last two articles on eLearning, I focused on understanding the needs for your LMS and the assessment of the project for your organization through a feasibility analysis , which I recommend as your first two steps of your online course platform evaluation.
