Let us take a trip back to the late 90s and 2000. Think of today, and Articulate Storyline fan base. Now, go back to the late 90s into the early 2000’s, with instructional designers developing WBT courses (Web-Based Training) and e-learning developers. I went with a Hybrid form of ADDIE. Articulate denied this.

History of the LMS

In 2000, I built my own LMS for a company, and was hired to create an e-learning program for customer training, as well as run a training division with ILT still in play (blended). Everyone I knew, followed the ADDIE approach. Articulate and Adobe definitely did damage to the market, again, with their original RCAT. Blackboard.

How many of you, are familiar with terms such as ADDIE? I self taught myself Instructional Design back in 2000. Too many people say to themselves we need to find someone who is an expert in Articulate Storyline because this is what we use. Ask them if they know what ADDIE stands for? Ever heard of a flower?

The biggest and best known of the initial RCATs is Articulate Studio, which uses PowerPoint as a cornerstone to their product. . ADDIE - Should be punted into outer space. As you are aware I am not a fan of AICC – useful in early 2000’s, but IMO not that useful today. In my opinion it has outweighed its usefulness.

The rise of rapid content authoring tools, specifically the explosive growth of Articulate Studio, which in all sense of the word was nothing more than a PPT converter, allowed anyone, to create an “online course” ID skills not needed. And knowledge of any ADDIE or another modalities, not needed. .

Build Gr8 Micro-Learning Course

Using RCATs like Articulate Studio. I started building such courses back in 2000, when I referred to them as scenario based courses. Unless you are an ID (instructional designer) or e-learning developer who was inspired by Gagne, you are not touching this with a five foot pole. I have yet to meet an educator who uses Gagne.
