Think of coaching as an enabler of the transformative learning process. Coaching can be a catalyst for personal perspective transformation. Yet, the focus here is firmly on coaching—more specifically, the coach. Some coaches struggle with asking powerful and probing questions. | TONY KARRER MAY 13, 2009 Online Coaching Catherine Lombardozzi recent post Coaching informal learning sparked something for me around online coaching opportunities. In this post, she adds to the list that a "learning coach" is also needed: Many learners will benefit from having someone to coach them through identifying their learning needs, sorting out the options for learning and development, and processing what they learn when they follow any of the available paths for learning. Before I get into coaching, let me step back and look at the larger picture. Often in the process of coaching we impose goals on our coachees and that is a bit of an antipattern that I sometimes observe. As a coach you can take your coachee's desire and perhaps mould that into a well formed outcome. coaching goal setting | LEARN AND LEAD AUGUST 16, 2009 Control vs. Influence Ranga, as he would like to be called, is a regular Executive Coach at ISB where he partners with different trainers in their Global Leadership Program. LEARNING JOURNAL | SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2009 Coaching informal learning In preparing for an upcoming series of workshops, I think I’ve landed on another important ingredient… a learning coach. We can coach ourselves, of course, but many of us benefit greatly from having someone to support our learning. This might involve going to the bookstore (okay, maybe I’m the only geek who does that, but still, it’s a strategy), finding a colleague who can teach or coach on the subject, doing an internet search and sorting through what’s found, or even doing some tentative experimentation to see what works and what doesn’t. . INTEGRATED LEARNINGS | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2011 Being a Good Coach through eLearning Feedback have a friend who plans to volunteer as an assistant coach for his son’s soccer team in the fall. He told me about some of the advice he found on the web about coaching, and I realized that much of what he learned can be applied to coaching in eLearning as well. Instead, we should write feedback for incorrect responses in a way that coaches the learner. If we take that coaching approach to incorrectly answered questions, then we can also apply some of the principles my friend learned about coaching a soccer team. By Shelley A. Gable.
