Let us take a trip back to the late 90s and 2000. The idea of rapid content authoring, was non-existent. The dominating authoring tool by far, was Authorware. Now, go back to the late 90s into the early 2000’s, with instructional designers developing WBT courses (Web-Based Training) and e-learning developers.

In 2000, I built my own LMS for a company, and was hired to create an e-learning program for customer training, as well as run a training division with ILT still in play (blended). As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build.
