I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). That said, across the board for all Big Dog systems, their social learning functionality was weak. Saba does a good job as well. My runner-up is Operitel’s LearnFlex LSP.

In 2011, the trend is showing that those days are gone. If you as the customer want to create your own API/Mashup or find one on the net and want to integrate it into your paid LMS, the vendor will charge you.
