Shelly Blake-Plock announced last night via LinkedIn that he would be leading a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for IEEE LTSC (Learning Technologies Standards Committee). This is good news, as Shelly is going to carry a real load in leading that group. IEEE stamping xAPI would encourage adoption, particularly outside of the US.

As these efforts continue, likely so will standards implementations, so it’s a good idea to track the developments of the IEEE LTSC group. I’m also part of the cmi5 working group and serve as a IEEE committee officer, so we’re always staying up to date with what’s happening in the eLearning standards world.

xAPI and LRS (Learning Record Stores) have been in the news and frankly everywhere within the e-learning industry in the past 1.5 In 2003, the eLearning startup I worked for shuttered its doors as our customers moved to adopt SCORM, and we had no idea how to do that. SCORM Version 1.2 might address.
