Are there vendors in the e-learning space who lack basic understanding around e-learning? Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole?

Combination of synchronous and asynchronous features. Most systems in the education space are still strongly focused on synchronous based learning. Built in authoring tool – never hurts. The system also has a course authoring tool, assessment tool (test wizard), eportfolios, gradebook and more.

Unfortunately, too many vendors in the e-learning space have failed to see the power and potential of this capability, and have decided to ignore them. Facilitation now exists between the pieces of software, similar to interaction between a human and a computer (again, in a basic example). Open Architecture.
