In the late 1990s, each learning management system had its own proprietary content format, which encouraged vendor lock-in. The lab combined the work of existing standards organizations like the AICC , IMS and the IEEE LTSC into a cohesive reference model. Today, SCORM is the de facto standard for e-Learning interoperability.

As these efforts continue, likely so will standards implementations, so it’s a good idea to track the developments of the IEEE LTSC group. Migrate off of any system or content that is still using the very early 0.9 Start leveraging cmi5 as the base specification for your launched content needs. x specification and the 2.0

Most LMS systems have ways to launch these kinds of reference systems (they are just a web page after all). There are a bunch of other standards by ADL (who is responsible for SCORM ), IMS , IEEE LTSC including CORDRAâ„¢ , LOM , Meta-data , etc. In these cases, I'm not tracking and likely it's not under the LMS.

My job was to help author SCORM 2004, focusing on how to develop content that would work in SCORM systems. In layman’s terms, xAPI is a means of sharing a record of activity about some piece of content or media with another system. Two months after my layoff, a company called CTC recruited me to work for ADL.
