In my opinion, giving a learner a self-study eLearning program as their only form of training or support is not much different than handing them a manual to read with some exercises. In this lonely form of learning, there is no opportunity for social learning to take place, either in the moment or as a follow up.

The material is being written at an 8th grade reading level and, for the most part, the training content is pretty straightforward. In both cases, the managers had complete control over the training their workers did or didn’t get. And the managers were completely comfortable with that (even if I was pulling my hair out over their decisions). But the manager is satisfied that the whole staff has been “cross-trained.&# Yeah, right.
