Every other e-learning tool today has higher SaaS than one sector – authoring tools. If a PPT course tool – what can it do that others in that niche can’t? Publish to xAPI – does it work with your LMS? That whole adaptive learning thing you hear pitched from vendors is somewhat misleading.

Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. LMS, web, CD, etc., A product that has multiple uses, which can be either a standalone into your LMS as a course, or used as a Podcast Or. iTunes, iTunes University, Facebook, MySpace, CD, web server & more.

If I am an authoring tool vendor, I would explore what is happening in the authoring tool market, what my product looks like, how I can make it better for my target audience and what do I see or others I trust see the e-learning space is heading. . Only a few support PENS, which is a shame, because it really does some very cool things.

Ability to publish to.exe, web – this has always been around, but one vendor spins it with “Offline SCORM”, then you find out this means you can download the course in its SCORM wrapper and either have it as an.exe, use it on the web (without a LMS) or publish it to a LMS. Daily Backups. Guess what though?

An alarming rate of “get the content up now, ASAP&# regardless of what it looks like, instructional design is typically tossed out the window, especially when the ID, CD or whomever is tasked to create is handed a stream of documents in Word or PPT or some other form.
