Today BlackBoard announced plans to merge with WebCT; the two leading providers in the higher education eLearning space (BlackBoard alone forecasts US$150M+ for their fiscal year). It also doesn't bode well for WebCT's willingness to play with open source (sorry Harold!) Clark - you need to update your Chart of Consolidations !

Now I don't normally get very excited about LMSs but these awards attracted my attention, because in amongst the Sabas and the SumTotals was little ol' open-source Moodle: Award for market share - Small and Medium Corporate Learning Management Systems - Platinum award: Moodle. LMSs (Saba, SumTotal, SkillPort, etc.) Interesting times.

I identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name), Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). SumTotal by Skillsoft – the 2016 re-haul is a huge plus. SumTotal by Skillsoft. Saba Learning.
