In this next profile, extracted from The New Learning Architect , we see another fine example of how a learning and development department has been able to break free from the confines of the face-to-face course to provide support for learning across multiple contexts. KAPP NOTES | FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2008 Help, I have an Instructional Design Master's Degree and I Can't Create E-Learning 57.584 Online Course Design -teaches Blackboard, Centra, Captivate, Adobe Presenter, Snag-It and Hot Potatoes. This month's ASTD Big Question relates to a person who graduated from a theory-only program in Instructional Design and was not provided with the experience of actually creating instruction using any of the latest tools. ONLIGNMENT | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2009 How long does it take to develop one hour of training? That’s why I was interested to read the analysis by Karl Kapp (see Time to Develop One Hour of Training ): “In 2003, the low estimate for developing one hour of instructor-led, web-based training delivery (using software such as Centra, Adobe Connect, or WebEx) was 30 hours and the high estimate was 80 hours. People often ask how long it takes to develop one hour of self-study e-learning. These figures nearly always surprise people, because they wouldn’t normally spend anywhere near this time developing for the classroom. An hour is an hour is an hour. Both higher. MORE >> -
ELEARNING 24-7 | SUNDAY, APRIL 10, 2011 M-Learning: Where’s the app for that? Saba Centra. As I write on my iPad, thoughts swirl abound. With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. It shouldn’t matter. If your telling me your solution is mobile ready, then all I should need to do is go iTunes or Android and find your app. Simple, right? Ahh, here’s the rub. It isn’t. Thus they can advertise they offer mobile learning. Even better. emTrain? SumTotal? MORE >> -
CLIVE ON LEARNING | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2011 Can the ‘big LMS’ break clear of formal training? Getting mobile: Their Centra web conferencing system and performance applications are available for iPhone and iPad, with Android and Blackberry in the works. I must confess it is now four months since I received an in-depth demonstration from the people at Saba of their People Systems Suites. The new versions have been released now for a while, so it may be old news to you, but I was interested enough at the time to take a whole load of notes, so I thought I should share some of these with you. Across all applications the total now stands at 17m. The company is debt-free. MORE >> -
