An API (Application Program Interface) enables an interface from a piece of software to communicate with another piece of software (in its simplest form) or multiple pieces of software (called a mashup). Twitter has APIs, so does Facebook, even Linkedin. Examples: Post your status update in Linkedin and it appears in Twitter.

The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55 to 65 year old women. The age range of people using social media is 35 to 54, with a college or post graduate degree. Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear. They offer the repetitive features of what they deem to be social learning.

The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. Folding up shop for good – goodbye and nice knowing you. Acquiring another LMS or e-learning vendor.

Situated learning (learning within context in a community of practice) grows thanks to augmented mobile reality. Virtual classrooms and smart-boards are used in a more student-centered way (not putting all the attention to one person up-front=bad). Twitter, Yammer), wikis, blogs, discussion groups, etc.

Newest Version – LMS/Learning Portal Directory. Nearly all Lite LMS vendors have their pricing listed and I thank them for doing so – frankly, every vendor should (and I’ll explain further down the blog). So, why then would you not want to know the price – at least the street price, up front.

Social learning? If they were doing it, Facebook like page, a crummy blog that looks nothing like a real blog, a Twitter like feed, maybe RSS, text chat and YouTube functions and upload/download angle. Vendors are adding more “comments&# and voting i.e. yes or no or thumbs up/thumbs down features.
