This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

E-Learning development houses need to be able to demonstrate a clear value in their services. Why should companies go with e-Learning vendors when rapid e-Learning tools are available? Have the e-Learning vendor create the first few custom programs. I completely agree with this.

If they do not offer unlimited sessions per month, then they shouldn’t be in this business. Vendors who offer the ability to upload your PowerPoint, word docs, slides, etc. So you can have your PPT or whatever docs and upload them into the presentation while you are taking. Upload in real time, on the fly.

But, the reason I constantly bash this into e-learning vendors heads is they just DON’T GET IT. LMS vendors who are moving into the Talent Management Space. We offer social learning – in some cases true collaborative learning, even the possibility to work together on a project or a document in a space.

Especially when people are in the field whether it is with consumers, at a job location, meeting with business clients, whatever. . No longer are they stuck saying, well it would something like this – and show an image or hard doc, now the end user can experience it. . Most likely with tablets and smartphones.

Small business is a very good market for them; but many offer pricing for SMB. Lots of options, because reference materials, no longer have to be PDF, word docs or excel files. If you exceed your storage allotment, Lite systems usually charge for additional storage. They can be audio “Motivators&# , video, links to other sites.

Vendors who created their own integrated web conferencing tool, rather then charging end users extra to use their “partner” integrated one – achieved by having you purchase a separate license. Incorporation of Google docs, CRM (Customer Relationship Mgt), APIs (without charging a fee). Reality Check. Bottom Line.
